Pregnancy with prolapse
Your uterus (or womb) is generally held inside your pelvis with various muscles, tissue, and ligaments. Due to pregnancy, childbirth or difficult labor and delivery, in some women these muscles weaken. Also, as a lady ages and with a natural loss of the hormone estrogen, her uterus can drop into the vaginal canal, causing the condition referred to as a prolapsed uterus.
Uterine prolapse may be a common case in non-pregnant older women; however, uterine prolapse complicating pregnancy may be a rare event, which either exists before or has an acute onset during pregnancy.
The following conditions also can cause a prolapsed uterus:
• Pregnancy/childbirths with normal or complicated delivery through the vagina
• Weakness within the pelvic muscles with advancing age
• Weakening and loss of tissue tone after menopause and loss of natural estrogen
• Being overweight or obese with its additional strain on pelvic muscles
• you have had surgery in the past to treat a vaginal prolapse.
• Smoking
• Being overweight or obese
• Lower estrogen level after menopause
• Chronic constipation or straining with bowel movements
