C- Section

C Section, another term for cesarean delivery, is the procedure of delivering the child. It is a surgical procedure that involves the use of incision in a pregnant woman’s abdomen. Studies have shown that every third child born in the U.S.A is through the process of C-Section. Doctors recommend this procedure only when there is a risk of baby or mother’s health when delivering through the vagina.

Reasons for C-Section

There are multiple reasons when your doctor will prescribe you to undergo the process of C-Section. A few of them have been listed below:

1. In the case of contagious disease where the infant has a chance of getting affected by the virus.
2. When the mother is diabetic during the pregnancy period.
3. Multiple births such as triplets have the least chance of delivery through the vagina.
4. The size of the baby is large to come out of the cervix.

Above that, one can choose to undergo this procedure on purpose. This might include past experiences during vaginal delivery, the occurrence of anxiety and other factors.

How C-Section is Done?

Before initiating the C-Section process, your doctor will make a cut on your abdomen that is generally between 10 to 20 cm long.

1. Because of spinal anesthesia, your body will not feel any sort of pain. The spinal anesthesia numb the lower body.
2. Your doctor will either make a vertical incision that is below the navel to the top of pubic bone or a horizontal incision which is known as bikini cut.
3. Next, the doctor will again incision the uterus which will rupture the amniotic sac.
4. The baby’s head and the nose is delivered first so that the baby can breathe easily.

Risks Involved In C-Section

Usually, the procedure is quite safe and has a great success ratio. Well, there are certain complications that might occur after C-Section.

1. A C-Section might result in heavy bleeding.
2. There is a risk that is associated with your baby. Your baby might get cuts during the procedure which is generally very rare.
3. Your baby might have a problem with breathing and respiration.
4. Your body might get affected with some sort of infection near uterus or pelvic organs.

Usually, the process of c-section can take up to 45 minutes. The baby usually gets delivered in 5 to 15 minutes and the rest of the time is allotted to close the incision.
